May 2026

Dear Readers,
As we move through another vibrant spring season in Adult General Education, we are reminded of the energy, dedication, and quiet resilience it takes to do our work. Like busy bees in search of pollen, we are constantly sharing, collaborating, and moving through the tiers of our educational system, while keeping our hive of students at the heart of everything that we do.
With conference moments behind us and exam preparation now in full swing, we find ourselves in one of the busiest stretches of the year. It is a time filled with intensity, but also purpose. Every conversation, every strategy, and every gesture of support contributes to student confidence and success.
To the educators, consultants, and professionals within the English sector, we say: keep it going. Even in the busiest of hives, your work creates meaning and momentum. The finish line is approaching, and your efforts continue to make a real difference for our learners.

CADRE21 – Designing School Spaces: Three Self-Paced Courses to Transform Learning Environments (in French only)
What if the physical school environment could become a driver of student well-being, motivation, and success? With this vision in mind, CADRE21, in partnership with Lab-École, is offering a set of three complementary self-paced courses designed to rethink school spaces — both indoors and outdoors.
These courses are specifically intended for pedagogical leaders and individuals responsible for material resources who wish to initiate or enrich a space-planning approach within their educational setting. They explore the fundamental principles of school space design, analyze learning environments through various perspectives (flexibility, climate, biophilia, etc.), and provide a wide range of resources to help bring meaningful projects to life.
Each course serves as a distinct entry point, giving participants access to the most relevant ideas and tools tailored to local needs and educational objectives.
École Branchée
École branchée – Article
This École branchée article highlights researcher Steve Masson and the strategies emerging from neuroeducation to better support learning. He is known for making neuroscience accessible and practical and he emphasizes a key principle: understanding begins with memorization.
The article presents two effective teaching practices: retrieval (actively recalling information) and spaced learning. These two approaches are widely recognized for strengthening long-term retention. They are presented in a practical and accessible way to support their integration into the classroom and are beneficial for all learners, including those with special needs.

New Resource
ACE resources Padlet
Jessica Lee (Mathematics and Science Specialist, First Nations Regional Adult Education centre) generously shared a resource that she created. The excel files simulate credit card’s fees and interest. Students can enter the amount, select the frequency, and the file will automatically calculate the annual amounts (also monthly and weekly averages). Ideally students should be given a brief overview on how it operates.
Jessica encourages teachers of CMP 5070-1 to use this resource as a starting point to create meaningful pivot tables and graphs. To access the resources visit the AGE resources website. The padlet is found in the teacher contribution section on the Social Science page.

Un-official Progression of Learning
Pedagogical consultants Marion Weissmann (RSB), Guilia Civitarese (SWLSB), and Emilie Bowles (LBPSB) have collaborated monthly since September to harness their collective expertise, to reduce redundancy across centers, and to share their workload. The team is in the validation and refinement phase of a suggested local progression of learning. All levels from B‑121 to B‑126 are now complete.
This will ensure greater equity across the network by providing teachers with a clear roadmap and pedagogical consultants with structured direction for targeted interventions. It benefits students by guaranteeing equitable learning opportunities, clarifying expectations, and strengthening confidence and motivation by monitoring their progress. We hope that it will be used to support personalized learning paths by identifying each student’s position on the continuum.
Thank you ladies for your dedication and commitment.

The state of digital citizenship education in Europe
A new report by the Council of Europe brings to light a Committee of Ministers Recommendation (CM/Rec(2019)10) for digital citizenship education while inviting educational institutions to reconsider their own practices. The recommendation was adopted in 2019 by the Committee of Ministers and it encourages member States to integrate digital citizenship into educational policy, programs, and professional development for teaching personnel.
The report, entitled State of Play, was published in January 2026. It shows that although many countries have put digital competency, media literacy, and online security initiatives into place, few actually refer to the report’s recommendations in their official documentation. Two issues are most evident: professional development for teaching personnel and evaluation structures to measure the impact of direct actions.
